⛳️ Merbein Weekly UpdateAnother strong week at Merbein — and while the numbers weren’t huge, the golf certainly was. A big thank you as always to our competition and nearest-the-pin sponsors — Mallee Burger, Australian Vintage, Sunraysia Golf Range, Drummond Golf, and the Merbein Lions Club — for their ongoing support.🏆 Wednesday 18/2 – Monthly Mug StablefordMike Mooney smashed the field, taking out the Monthly Mug with a superb 37 points. Phil Williamsfinished runner-up with 34, while Shane Trinickpicked up a ball. • Winner: Mike Mooney – 37 pts (Clean. Controlled. No panic. Just steady golf while others were scrambling). • Runner-up: Phil Williams – 34 pts (Found a pulse—about time!) • Ball: Shane Trinick – 33 pts • NAGA: Gerald Chapman (we respect the honesty)Daily NTP: • Australian Vintage (3rd): (Check the board — it was a hot day for the short sticks!)Weekly NTPs: • Drummond Golf (8th): Shane Trinick – 610cm • Random Prize (12th): Mike Mooney – 474cm • Merbein Lions Club (16th): Gerald Chapman – 1030cm🌙 Friday 20/2 – Front 9 StablefordLeigh Heywood gave us an early warning of his form, taking out Friday night with 18 points. Luke McClelland finished just behind with 17. • Winner: Leigh Heywood – 18 pts • Runner-up: Luke McClelland – 17 pts • NAGA: Aaron Pratt🔥 Saturday 21/2 – ParLeigh Heywood continued his hot form, backing up Friday’s win with +6 to claim the Drummond Golf voucher. That’s confidence and control—knowing where the ball is going before you even swing.Carolyn McKenzie continued her strong run with +4 as runner-up, while David McKenzie picked up a ball with +1. • Winner: Leigh Heywood +6 • Runner-up: Carolyn McKenzie +4 • Ball: David McKenzie +1 • NAGA: Jim Piper (proof the golfing gods spare no one)Daily NTP: • Australian Vintage (3rd): Oscar Mannix – 91cm (Borderline disrespectful to the hole)Weekly NTP Winners: • Sunraysia Golf Range (5th): Jim Piper – 445cm • Drummond Golf (8th): Shane Trinick – 610cm • Random Prize (12th): David McKenzie – 401cm • Merbein Lions Club (16th): Gerald Chapman – 1030cm🔥 Form WatchRed Hot • Leigh Heywood — Two wins in two days. Leigh’s handicap has officially been slashed; the system has finally caught up with him. You don't fluke back-to-back wins—that's proper form. • Mike Mooney — 37 and daylight. Clinical. • Carolyn McKenzie — Consistency machine; right on the verge of a breakthrough win.Trending Up • Big Hitting Al (Alan Gourlay) — Showing promising signs. Just needs a little luck to go his way—at the moment, if there’s a shrub or a tree anywhere near the fairway, Al’s ball seems to find it. Once he gets a bit of luck and finds the short stuff, the rest of the field is in serious trouble. 🌳🏌️♂️ • David McKenzie — Around the mark and building nicely. • Oscar Mannix — Making plenty of birdies; just needs to tidy up the rest. • Maxy Trinick — Slight flat spot, but rarely far from the top half.Playing Through Pain • Jim Piper — Battling injury but still fronting up. The course is a credit to him, Kerr, and the volunteers. On Notice 👀 • Cheese — Standards have officially flipped. We’ve gone from Captains like Abe, who actually managed to win a Club Championship, to cheese who—as always—is the red-hot favourite for NAGA of the Year. After shanking it out of bounds from a perfect lie in the dead centre of the fairway, it’s clear that Cheese’s best chance of lifting silverware is volunteering to polish it. We love a redemption story… but right now he's just the head of the cleaning committee for the trophies Abe &co have won. 🧼🏆A big thank you again to Jim, Kerr, and the rest of the volunteers for keeping the course in such fantastic condition.🚨 Upcoming Events • Wednesday: Stableford • Friday: Back 9 Stableford • Saturday: 4 Person Ambrose – 9:30am Shotgun Start 🚀Booking Information:Book for the Saturday Ambrose or any other competition via:💻 Merbein Golf Club Website (merbeingolfclub.com.au/)📱 OneGolf App / merbein.1golf.com.au📍 Or register in the clubhouse at least 20 minutes prior to tee-off.Visitors are always welcome! … See MoreSee Less

Another big week at Merbein, plenty of stories, and as always a big thanks to our comp sponsors — Mallee Burger, Australian Vintage, Sunraysia Golf Range, Drummond Golf and the Merbein Lions Club, along with Adrian Rudd for generously supplying the trophy and prizes for the Annual Adrian Rudd Perpetual Trophy.Wednesday 11/2 – StablefordOnly a small field braved the heat, but the course certainly won the battle early in the week. Two-time Martin Cup winner and former club champion Ken Matulick showed that experience counts, backing up his previous win with another well-earned victory. His playing partner came out in red-hot form early, but Ken stayed patient and composed. After the turn he looked in full control, handling the conditions superbly and pulling away to claim the win with 34 points — in conditions where simply sticking it out was an achievement.NAGA: Frank Crouch⸻Friday 13/2 – Back 9 StablefordAgain the course and wind proved too strong for most, meaning the course made it two from two to start the week. Just 17 points was enough to take the win, with Peter Hahn finishing on top with 17 points ahead of Robert Faux on 16.NAGA: Kevin Burke⸻Saturday 14/2 – Annual Adrian Rudd Perpetual Trophy StablefordConditions improved and the scoring followed, with some blistering rounds recorded. In stark contrast to earlier in the week, you needed at least 38 points just to rate a mention.Ethan Gray took out the Annual Adrian Rudd Perpetual Trophy with 40 points on a countback from runner-up Carolyn McKenzie. Third place went to Will Price, with balls to Shane Martin, all finishing on 40 points.Big-hitting Alan Gourlay stormed home with 39 points, while Paul Hollingsworth also featured among the better scores with 38 points.Nearest the Pins:Australian Vintage 3rd – Chase Faux 309cmSunraysia Golf Range 5th (80 Ball) – Tim Rix 110cmDrummond Golf 8th – Shane Martin 397cmRandom Prize 12th – Carolyn McKenzie 312cmMerbein Lions Club 16th – Shane Martin 290cmNAGA: Max Hollingsworth⸻Form Watch 👀It’s starting to look like a prerequisite for being on the committee might be that you simply don’t win competitions, with some pretty ordinary results floating around lately. Not wanting to single anyone out… but here we go.Jo Klitscher — did those new clubs come with a return policy? At this rate they might wear out before they ever find form. And now to the president, Oscar. Like many presidents before him, playing golf is becoming a rare sight — and playing good golf even rarer.Last but not least, the captain “Cheese,” well known as the club’s biggest shanker has seen his form head well and truly south. … See MoreSee Less
